Actress (1918–1985) nicknamed ‘Queen of the Screamers’ for her numerous horror film roles. ALS signed “Aloha, Evie,” two pages, 8.5 x 11, July 17, 1972. In part: “Lon Chaney’s delight or ‘kicks’ after he came on the set about an hour after we did, because of the long make-up job (when wearing ‘Wolf’ garb) was to creep up behind me—tap me on the shoulder, so I would turn around and with his face about an inch from mine—bare his fangs and put his horrible hairy arms and claws around me. He had to hold me or I would end up in the rafters!…Another time I was running through the eirie (?) woods in a ‘take.’ The prop men having used the fog machines before the ‘take,’ to make a low blanket of fog…’Something’ was chasing me—I turn as it gets closer I see it is the wolf man—I scream and faint…He creeps very slowly towards me (for suspense) bends over me—they pan in closer—then ‘cut.’ Everybody starts breaking up the set-up, getting ready for his close-up—except me—I’m out cold after inhaling all the artificial fog…I’d been lying in.” Double-matted and framed with what appears to be a second letter underneath, signed “Evelyn Ankers,” along with a photo of Ankers and Chaney and a small plaque to an overall size of 26.5 x 20.5.
