Son of President Abraham Lincoln (1843–1926) who served as secretary of war in the Garfield and Arthur administrations. TLS signed “Robert T. Lincoln,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.75 x 7.75, Pullman Building, Chicago letterhead, December 9, 1907. Letter to F. H. Meserve of New York. In part: “I have unduly delayed acknowledging your letter…asking if I could give any information respecting a small photograph of my father. I have made some search in my own collection, and among my own books, and I do not come across any photograph like this…and I do not think I remember it. I can see nothing about it to identify its date, except that it was taken after my father’s first election to the Presidency. If I should hazard a guess, it would be that it was taken at Springfield, Illinois, not far from January 1861.” Intersecting folds, the vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature, and light scattered soiling, otherwise fine condition.
