Lincoln,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, Pullman Building, Chicago, letterhead, July 16, 1910. Letter to Francis Miller at the Journal of American History. In part: “Of course I know of the Brady collection. I have a vague remembrance that I had something to do with purchasing them for the War Department…I can tell you that you will look in vain for a negative of myself taken in uniform, because no photograph of me was ever taken that I am aware of, and there were no snap shots in those days. There is probably known to you a small engraved Lincoln family picture, in which I am represented standing in uniform. It is a fake picture, The portrait of myself was taken from a college time carte de visite and the uniform drawn from imagination.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one passing through a single letter of signature, scattered toning and soiling, and an ink notation to top.
