In part: “Mr. Jones called on me the day you saw him & made all explanation assuring me tho that the lady should be promoted promptly in accordance with your order. I therefore feel secure that the matter is safe in your hands, & I merely wish to thank you for your kindness. I came on only to attend the funeral of Genl Johnston & I fear that I may not have the pleasure of seeing you before my departure.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds and a pencil notation to front.
