Description

Ali makes a payment to his personal bodyguard as training begins for ‘The Rumble In the Jungle’

Personal check, 6 x 2.5, filled out in another hand and signed by Ali, payable to Howard Patterson for $2000.00, April 5, 1974. A light vertical fold through a single letter of signature, a bit of light foxing along top, and bank stamp and cancellation holes to left side, otherwise fine condition. Patterson was a Chicago police officer who was assigned to Ali’s detail by then mayor Richard Daley. In 1974, Ali convinced the mayor to assign Patterson to him full-time, a position which he held until 1980. Great association between the champ and a member of his inner circle. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.  Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
