Description

In 1938, Cooper pays a whopping 27K to the IRS

Personal check, 8 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Cooper, payable to Collector of Internal Revenue for $27281.75, September 15, 1938. Memo lines read, “4th qtr 1937 tax, Veronica B. Cooper, Gary Cooper.” A vertical fold to right side passing through one letter of signature, and expected cancellation stamps and holes, otherwise fine condition. An astronomical amount for its time, this check is a clear reflection of Cooper’s highly-paid star appeal. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
