Very rare signed Brady carte-de-visite of Custer

Scarce original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite seated portrait of Custer by Brady Studios in Washington, signed on the reverse in black ink, “G. A. Custer, BtMjGenl.” Imprinted on the reverse, in center: “Brady’s National Photographic Portrait Galleries, Broadway & Tenth Street, New York, No. 352 Pennsylvania Av. Washington D.C.” In fine condition, with some scattered light soiling to both sides, mild rippling along left edge, and a couple of corner tip dings. On February 23, 1866, the US Senate consented to President Andrew Johnson’s appointment of George A. Custer to be Brigadier and Brevet Major-General of the US Volunteers retroactive to April 15, 1865, the day President Abraham Lincoln died and Vice President Andrew Johnson was sworn in as 17th President of the United States. Signed photos of Custer are of the utmost scarcity. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
