Description

Gershwin pens Porgie and Bess lyrics: “But who calls dat livin' when no gal'll give in”

Very nice AQS on an off-white 5 x 3 card. Gershwin pens the lyrics to a verse from the song “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” from Porgie and Bess. In full: “Methus'lah lived nine hundred years, Methus'lah lived nine hundred years, But who calls dat livin' when no gal'll give in, To no man what's nine hundred years.” Signed at the conclusion, “From ‘It Ain’t Necessarily So’ (Porgie and Bess), Ira Gershwin,” adding a brief inscription at the top. In fine condition. A superb lengthy musical quotation from a name synonymous with show tunes. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
