Description

“Since I was fortunate to become the new champion, I have been deluged with letters and telegrams”

Scottish two-time world champion Formula One driver (1936–1968) who died in a crash during a race in Germany. TLS, one page, 8 x 10.25, personal letterhead, October 2, 1963. Letter of thanks to a well-wisher. In part: “Since I was fortunate to become the new champion, I have been deluged with letters and telegrams as kind and as welcome to me as your own. I could never have dreamed that there were so many hundreds of old friends who would wish me well…This little note is the only way I can say a brief, though heartfelt, ‘thank you’ before dashing off for a lengthy sojourn in the United States.” In very good condition, with two punch holes to left edge, small tack hole to upper left, and scattered wrinkling and creasing. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
