Description

Scarce Max Factor contract, the premier makeup supplier to Hollywood’s legendary leading ladies

American actress (1908–1942) who enjoyed great success as a popular screen comedienne in the 1930s, and who became Mrs. Clark Gable in 1939. On January 16, 1942, the plane in which Lombard was traveling en route to a war bond rally crashed into Mount Potosi near Las Vegas, killing all 22 aboard. DS, 8.5 x 11, July 13, 1932. Lombard grants Max Factor & Company “the privilege of using my name and (or) photograph for advertising and publicity purposes in the United States and foreign countries for the period of one year from date hereof in connection with your magazine, newspaper and window advertising.” In very good condition, with light surface wrinkling, a uniform shade of toning, a tiny tear along bottom edge, small staple marks on the top left corner, and two punch holes to the top border. Accompanied by a Max Factor & Co. inter-office correspondence, dated January 24, 1975, to Lee Quaintance from Robert M. Bard, listing the names of Dolores Del Rio, Carole Lombard, Claudette Colbert, Ginger Rogers, Jean Harlow, Rita Hayworth, and Mae West, for whom ‘release files’ were enclosed. The year 1932 would also find Lombard starring in No Man of Her Own, alongside Clark Gable, whom she would later marry. Uncommon in this format, we’ve seen less than a dozen signed documents from Lombard, and this has particularly nice association. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
