Description

Scarce childhood signature of the reclusive actress

Silent-era film actress (1902–1984) whose career suffered a fatal blow in 1922 with the unsolved murder of her sometime director and reputed lover William Desmond Taylor. Following her final screen appearance in 1923, she lived as a recluse in California until the end of her life. Rare vintage fountain pen signature of her childhood name, “Juliet Shelby,” on a 6.25 x 4 album page, also signed by five other cast members of the play The Littlest Rebel, dated in a collector’s hand January 4, 1912. Other signatures are William Mack, Percy Harwell, Geo. Thatcher, and Dustin and William Farnum, who have signed on the reverse. Uniform mild toning, a bit heavier to edges, paper loss to right edge, and collector’s pencil notations under signature, otherwise fine condition. A very uncommon variation, the first we have ever seen. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
