Three items: TLS signed “W. McKinley,” one page, 5.25 x 8.25, personal letterhead, March 10, 1896. Letter to an aspiring composer. In full: “I much admire the sentiments expressed in your song ‘Fair Land of Ohio’ and I congratulate you upon your skill of expression. I would deem it an honor to have the song dedicated to me.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, two through single letters of signature and scattered soiling.
And, an LS signed “W. McKinley,” one page, 5.25 x 8.25, personal letterhead, June 16, 1896. Letter of thanks for a musical gift. In full: “It was very kind of you to remember me with a copy of your composition ‘Dear Old Ohio Home’ and I thank you for the courtesy.” In very good condition, with uniform shade of toning, scattered soiling, and a few creases and wrinkles.
Also included is an unsigned printed copy of the work McKinley references in the two letters, ‘Dear Old Ohio Home (Fair Land of Ohio,’ composed by Marian Moore, dedicated in print to McKinley. Terrific association! Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
