Description

Upon his return to America, Lee takes work and shelter at Ruby Chow’s

Fully intact original cookbook booklet, circa early 1960s, 5.5 x 4.5, from Ruby Chow’s Chinese restaurant in Seattle, Washington. Left page of booklet bears a printed introduction, with the right page bearing Chinese characters which loosely translate to a welcome and invitation from Ruby Chow to dine at her restaurant. Signed on the right page in black ink, “To Peter, Peace, Bruce.” The recipient in all likelihood is Lee’s brother Peter. Matted and framed by a photo of Bruce and his brother Peter posing with Chow, and a photo of Lee demonstrating his martial arts inside her restaurant, to an overall size of 9 x 19. In fine condition, with a uniform shade of mild toning. Upon Lee’s move to Seattle from Hong Kong in 1959, he worked for Ruby Chow as a waiter and lived in quarters above her restaurant. In fact, many of Lee’s early gung fu photos were shot in the parking lot and inside her establishment. An early and interesting example from Lee as he begins his new life in America. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
