Description

General Patton celebrates pending victory over Germany while visiting Massachusetts in June 1945

Program from the 1945 dinner in honor General George S. Patton given by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 6 x 9, signed on the front cover in fountain pen, “G. S. Patton, Jr., Gen.” In very good to fine condition, with scattered toning and soiling largely confined to the front page, and a brush to the end of “Jr.” Less than a month after leaving combat operations in Europe, this dinner was one of many held in his honor. Two days after being recognized in Massachusetts, Patton and Army Air Forces Lieutenant General Jimmy Doolittle were honored with a parade through Los Angeles and a reception at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before a crowd of over 100,000 people. Accompanied by two unsigned photos—one of C. Edward Holland, managing editor of the Boston Record American newspaper, who originally obtained the autograph, and a second showing Patton signing at an event with Holland visible in the background. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
