LS in French, signed “Nap,” one page both sides, 7 x 9, August 18, 1810. Letter to the Duke of Feltre. In full (translated): “ Give orders to the 24th light to leave for the Holland ground to go to Saint Omer. Give orders to the 16th and 67th line to leave from where they are at to go to Lille. You will let me know when these two regiments arrive in Lille. This way, only five French infantry and four cavalry regiments will remain in Holland. You will receive a decree by which I have ordered that on September 1st these nine regiments can stay in the barracks and stop being billeted on the bourgeois, and that they be paid, fed and taken in charge to the expense of the Holland budget. I will increase this budget if necessary. All French artillery and pontoneer sappers will return to St. Omer. Only five infantry regiments will remain in Holland with the five Hollandaise regiments providing ten infantry and four cavalry regiments. The Hollandaise artillery and transport branch, for personnel as well as equipment, will provide all the artillery service. These troops will be paid under Holland budget and under the same base, without you or the Public Revenue Minister having to interfere. I think that the hospitals, surgeons, war commissioners, should be servicing Holland; this will make great savings.
