Description

Disney politely declines an invitation to write in the Post's Speaking Out column: "I am really not a writer and I'm afraid I would be dull reading at best"

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, December 29, 1964. Letter to John Hurt of the Curtis Publishing Company. In full: “I'm flattered to be asked to contribute to Speaking Out--but I am going to beg off. Frankly, I don't feel I should take part in this. I am really not a writer and I'm afraid I would be dull reading at best. However, I want to thank you for thinking of me and to take this opportunity to wish you a very Happy New Year.” A mild block of toning over text and signature from previous display, a staple to two corners, small pencil notation to top right, and a thin strip of mounting remnant along top edge on reverse, otherwise fine condition. Speaking Out: The Voice of Dissent was a regular piece in the newly revamped Saturday Evening Post, added to spark controversy. Riding a wave of success in the early 1960s, and with work already underway to develop Disneyworld in Florida, it is not unexpected Disney would shy away from any debate or squabbling. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
