British actor (1893–1943) best remembered for his roles in such classics as the Pygmalion, The Petrified Forest, and as Ashley Wilkes in Gone With the Wind. During World War II he devoted his energies to the war effort and was killed in 1943 when the plane he was on was shot down by German fighters over the Bay of Biscay. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo of Howard smoking a pipe, signed in-person in fountain pen, “Sincerely, Leslie Howard.” Reverse of photo bears collector’s stamp date of June 25, 1935, the date the signature was acquired. In fine condition, with some scattered light creases and surface marks, and some light contrast to last few letters of signature. A handsome image signed four years before Howard starred as Ashley Wilkes in Gone With the Wind. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
