Durable American character actress (1879–1967) who won the Academy Award for her supporting role as Ma Joad in the 1940 classic The Grapes of Wrath. Scarce vintage glossy 8 x 10 Fox publicity head-and-shoulders photo, credited to Otto Dyar, signed and inscribed in-person in fountain pen “To Saul, Sincerely, Jane Darwell.” Reverse of photo bears collector’s stamp date of January 22, 1940, the date the signature was acquired. In fine condition, with a couple scattered mild surface marks and creases, not at all detracting from overall appearance. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
