Description

Desirable oversized publicity photo of MGM's vice president and 'Fixer'

Film studio executive (1891–1963) who later became vice president of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and reputedly maintained underworld connections. He was also rumored to be complicit in cover-ups involving the deaths of Three Stooges founder Ted Healy and Superman actor George Reeves, with whom his second wife Toni Mannix had a long open affair. Vintage matte-finish 11 x 14 MGM Studios Ruth Harriet Louise portrait, signed and inscribed in green fountain pen "To Estelle, always wishing you the very best. Eddie Mannix." In very good condition, with a few small edge tears, scattered creasing, missing upper right and lower left corners, staining along the top of the image touching his hat, and several pin holes at the edges. Most of the defects are at the edges and could be matted out if so desired.

After Healy's death, it was rumored that actor Wallace Beery and two others had beaten Healy to death outside of a nightclub. Under orders from the studio, Beery was immediately sent to Europe for several months right after Healy's death, while a story of three college boys assaulting Healy was fabricated to cover up the truth. Despite such loathsome rumors, Mannix was much beloved in the Hollywood community. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
