Description

Che recognizes one of Cuba's "most valued" workers in 1962

Argentine-born Marxist political activist (1928–1967) who played a central role as Fidel Castro's most trusted associate during the Cuban Revolution. After serving in various positions in Castro's government, Guevara organized and led guerrilla efforts to overthrow the corrupt regimes of the Congo and Bolivia. Captured during a 1967 campaign in Bolivia, he was executed on the following day and instantly attained status as a martyr and one of the most revered and influential political revolutionaries of the 20th century. Visually striking partly-printed DS, in Spanish, signed with his usual diminutive "che," one page, 13.5 x 10.75, September 1962. Certificate presented to Enrique Valdes for being the most valued worker for the month of September 1962. Uniform toning, heavy overall vertical creases, one through signature, moderate foxing, and edge wear and tears to horizontal edges, otherwise very good condition. Also accompanied by an original one sheet movie poster for Che, starring Omar Sharif, as well as a pearl finish 10 x 8 photo of Guevara brandishing a small torch. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.

Guevara was at the very top of Castro's government when this document was signed, serving as minister of industries and president of the Cuban National Bank. Despite his status, the activist in him disliked his official governmental duties, leading him to dismissively and diminutively sign documents such as this solely as 'Che.' For Guevara, it was his way of symbolically showing his distaste for class distinctions, even when it mean recognizing the working class. RRAuction COA.
