Ibsen inscribes a rare volume, The Vikings at Helgeland, to poet Max Ring

Revered Norwegian playwright and poet (1828–1906) whose works, including A Doll's House and Hedda Gabler, made him one of the seminal figures in the forefront of modern drama. Signed book: Nordische Heerfahrt. Later printing. Munich: Theodor Udermann, 1876. Softcover, 5.5 x 7.25, 128 pages. Signed and inscribed on the (detached) inside front cover, "To the poet Max Ring, as a token of admiration. Henrik Ibsen." In good condition, with front cover and first two pages totally detached, several repaired tears and areas of paper loss to cover, one approaching end of signature, fragile pages and binding, light overall toning to pages, heavier at ends, moderate overall toning to covers, and scattered tears and chips to page edges. Book is stored in a handsome custom clamshell box and slipcase. The first signed volume from Ibsen we have offered. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
