Description

Gone With the Wind's author comes clean: "As to your question about whether Scarlett and the other characters were real --no, I made them all up. To be quite frank, I would not know how to take characters from life"

TLS, one page, 6.75 x 10.75, personal letterhead, January 16, 1937. Letter to a Gone With the Wind admirer. In full: "That was a fine letter you wrote me about 'Gone With the Wind' and I thank you so very much for it. I thank you too for the vivid picture you gave of the Canadian visitor in the Old Colonel's plantation home. I do not know when I have had such a good laugh as that story gave me. As to your question about whether Scarlett and the other characters were real --no, I made them all up. To be quite frank, I would not know how to take characters from life." Double matted and framed to an overall size of 12.5 x 16. In fine condition, with a couple small staple holes to top left, and a few minor creases and wrinkles. Accompanied by carbons of two letters sent to Mitchell, one sent before Mitchell's letter, the other acknowledging receipt of her letter. Direct insight into the author's most famous work. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
