Unissued scalloped-top DS as president, signed “J. Tyler,” one page, 9.5 x 14.5, no date, but circa (May-June 1843). An unissued ship’s pass, evidently presigned for clerical convenience, bearing two nautical engravings. Signed at the conclusion by Tyler, and countersigned by Secretary of State Hugh S. Legare. Double matted and framed, with a portrait of Tyler, to an overall size of 25 x 22. In fine, clean, crisp condition, with light intersecting folds, and some mild wrinkles. The white wafer seal is crisp and intact. A beautifully preserved example, which may have remained unissued after the death of interim Secretary of State Legare, who died on June 20, 1843. Oversized. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
