Image was taken from a copy of the 1936 Democratic Book. The book, a lavishly produced promotional “year book” for the Democratic Party, featured accomplishments by Democrats, images of FDR’s cabinet, and ads. The selling of advertising space—and the selling of the book itself to corporations, at $250.00 per copy—aroused much controversy at the time, and objections were raised that these de facto corporate contributions violated the Corrupt Practices Act.
