In part: “I have delayed answering your kind invitation, in the hope that I could so arrange my appointments as where the pleasure and honor of accepting it. I find, however, that this cannot...as I am engaged to go with Kent on Monday.” In very good condition, with scattered creasing, light soiling, areas of thin paper, and show-through from residue on the reverse. In 1847, Dickens was working on Dombey and Son, considered Dickens first artistically mature work.
