President Grant presents his signature to the French Fair

Ink signature, as president, “U. S. Grant,” on an off-white 4 x 5.5 album page, pre-printed with, “Autograph, Presented to the French Fair, With compliments of,” and dated at the bottom, “Boston, April, 1871.” Double matted and framed, with an engraved portrait of Grant, to an overall size of 18.5 x 14. A light brush to first initial, and some scattered light toning and foxing, otherwise fine condition. Germany had invaded France in late 1870 and the Boston French Fair was a fundraiser that netted $80,000 for the nation’s relief. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
