Description

Wilson, a Princeton professor, gives the university’s treasurer $100

Princeton Bank check, 7 x 3, filled out and signed by Wilson, payable to C. C. Cuyler, Treasurer for $100.00, February 4, 1901. Affixed is a revenue stamp, initialed by Wilson. Revenue stamps were issued by the government as as means to indicate that appropriate fees had been paid. During this time period, the fees were used to pay for various expenses related to the Spanish-American War. Expertly archivally double cloth matted with a Fabian Bachrach portrait and framed to an overall size of 13.25 x 19.5 by Gallery of History. In fine condition, with expected cancellation cut to body touching the start of his name, very light soiling, and a faint bank stamp. Wilson was still a Princeton University professor and not yet the president (of either Princeton or the United States) when he sent this check to Cuyler, a New York banker and Princeton University trustee. Cuyler was killed in 1909 in a car accident.
