ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Westland Mansion letterhead, December 10, 1907. Cleveland writes to H. W. Bassey of Stuart, Florida. In part: “I write you to-day in regard to stopping with you awhile if you can give me and a trained woman nurse that I want to take with me if I go. It occurs to me now to ask you, in case you cannot accommodate us, to inquire at the hotel if you can secure adjoining rooms then.” He has added the postscript: “Of course I cannot say at this moment that I can positively go to Stuart but I hope to do so if I can be adequately provided for.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, short tears to upper and lower edges, and uniform toning. Matted with a portion of the original mailing and framed to an overall size of 13.5 x 22. President Cleveland had fallen seriously ill in the fall of 1907 and was presumably arranging the trip to Florida with his nurse for his health.
