Brady portrait signed by Lincoln’s secretary of war

Politician (1814–1869) who served as secretary of war in the cabinets of Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. Formal 2.5 x 4 Matthew Brady carte-de-visite portrait (stamped as such both below the image and on the reverse), signed in ink at the bottom of the image. In very good condition, with light soiling and silvering, two small areas of emulsion loss to upper left corner, and mounting remnants on the back over the Brady information. A scarce signed photo made more desirable by its photographer. Provenance: The Barry Hoffman Collection. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
