Description

Connie Mack

Once a catcher, but made his mark as a manager. After a stint at the helm of Pittsburgh, he assumed control of the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901 and continued for 50 years until retirement at the age of 88. Mack is best remembered as a dignified, scorecard-waving leader in a business suit, who won five World Series crowns and built two dynasties. Boldly penned ALS, one page, 8.5 x 7.25, American Base Ball Club of Philadelphia letterhead, June 6, 1952. Letter to Paul. In full: “Am writing you to see if you can’t make the luncheon which takes place on the 7th of July. Christy tells me that you expect to be in Chicago on that day—The luncheon will not be the same without you. Try and come to the luncheon you will be missed if you can’t come.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, two lightly affecting signature, and a couple paperclip impressions to top edge. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
