Newly named Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, Eisenhower hopes his brother gained “a picture of conditions here that was different from what your own imagination had painted” after meeting with naval officers

TLS signed “Ike,” one page, 6 x 8, Allied Force Headquarters, Office of the Commander-in-Chief letterhead, December 30, 1943. Ike writes his elder brother, Kansas City banker Arthur Eisenhower. In part: “Thank you very much for your note of November 2. I am glad that you found the two naval officers entertaining. Possibly they gave you a picture of conditions here that was different from what your own imagination had painted.” In very good condition, with irregular blocks of uniform toning. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. The same month he sent this message to his brother, Ike received word that President Franklin D. Roosevelt had appointed the general Supreme Allied Commander in Europe. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
