Description

Bound volume of German magic magazines likely originating from Houdini’s vast library

Signed book: Die Zauberwelt. 1898. Hardcover, 6.25 x 9, 192 pages. Signed “Harry Houdini” in fountain pen on the second free end page. Die Zauberwelt translates as ‘The Magic World,’ and this appears to be a bound volume of several German magic magazines. References are made to Alexander Herrmann and several other magicians, and the pages are filled with illustrations of props and techniques. Interior pages are uniformly toned from age, but the page signed by Houdini is quite clean. The front cover is detached and the leather covering the spine has peeled off, otherwise very good condition. Interestingly, above a photo of Robert Lenz on page 97, Houdini has added a pencil notation: “Let me in news on Russians in 1903.” This small note, along with the well-thumbed nature of the volume leads us to believe that the signature in the front is probably an ownership signature, and that this book was likely part of Houdini’s vast magic library. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
