Description

LBJ sends thanks for an endorsement as part of his ‘Great Society’ program: “The national Council on Crime Delinquency will add its strength to those fresh initiatives which the safety of our citizens now require”

TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 9, White House letterhead, January 17, 1967. Letter to Sigurd Larmon, president of the National Council on Crime Delinquency. In full: “I was happy to receive your strong endorsement of our proposed crime program. We have great hopes for it. They are strengthened by the knowledge that the national Council on Crime Delinquency will add its strength to those fresh initiatives which the safety of our citizens now require.” In fine condition, with a rusty paperclip mark to top edge. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. The Great Society program, with its name coined from one of Johnson's speeches, became Johnson's agenda for Congress in January 1965. These programs included aid to education, attack on disease, urban renewal, a wide-scale fight against poverty, and control and prevention of crime. Experts today still disagree on the effectiveness of Johnson’s program. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
