Lincoln provides amnesty to a Confederate soldier

Endorsement, signed as president, “A. Lincoln,” on an off-white 3.25 x 2 slip. The endorsement (penned in the hand of one of Lincoln’s secretaries) reads in full: “Let this man be discharged on taking the amnesty oath of Dec. 8, 1863.” Double-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 24.25 x 20. In fine condition, with a vertical fold along the right edge of the paper. On the aforementioned date, Lincoln proclaimed a general conditional amnesty to all Confederate troops who pledged future loyalty to the United States. Oversized.
