Katharine Lee Bates

Educator and poet (1859–1929) best known for the lyrics to the iconic patriotic song ‘America the Beautiful.’ ALS, one page, 5.5 x 8.5, Wellesley College letterhead, June 22, 1914. Bates accepts a commencement ceremonies invitation at Middlebury College in Vermont. In part: “You will excuse a traveller [sic] not yet out of her sea-chest and into her Middlebury suitcase, for accepting in such brief terms your very kind invitation for Commencement.” In fine condition, with light creasing along the right side. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
