“My life here is more of excruciating annoyances”

ALS signed “Benj. Harrison,” two pages, lightly-lined on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, United States Senate letterhead, March 22, 1884. Harrison writes former Union general and New York Secretary of State Joseph Carr. In part: “I find that sort of longing for a quiet and decent life myself. In public life in subject to a multitude of little annoyances…My life here is more of excruciating annoyances after all the work & worry I do not feel as if I’m accomplishing much.” In fine condition, with small separation along the spine, scattered toning, and mild soiling.
