Personal check, 6 x 3, filled out and signed by Lee, payable to Greenway Traveling for $129.60, August 16, 1966. Matted and framed with a photo of Lee, to an overall size of 13 x 17.5. In fine condition, with cancellation holes to left side of check, and slight show-through from bank stamps on reverse; the signature is completely unaffected.
Lee was living in a tiny apartment on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood, California, preparing for his television debut on The Green Hornet, when he wrote this check. Producer William Dozier had invited the martial arts expert to audition for the role of Kato on the show, and was so impressed by the lightning-fast moves that he was signed as Van Williams’ crime-fighting companion. The short-lived show is still well-remembered by pop culture and Bruce Lee fans, with this check signed just a short time before his debut on the small screen.
