Description

The millionaire founder of Ford Motor Company poses for Bachrach as the world speeds toward the 1929 Stock Market Crash

Outstanding vintage matte-finish 8 x 11.5 Bachrach portrait, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Emil, your best friend is the one who brings out the best that is in you. Henry Ford.” Nicely suede matted and framed to an overall size of 13.75 x 17.5. An area of scattered light surface marks and loss to right edge near Ford’s elbow, and some other scattered light surface marks and flecks of surface loss, otherwise fine condition.

Bachrach Studios was founded in Baltimore in 1868 by David Bachrach, Jr, and is thought to be the oldest continuously operating photography studio in the world. Bachrach’s goal was to photograph as many important and influential people as possible—resulting in the studio having photographed every president since Lincoln, as well as countless other notables. In January 1929, when Ford sat for this photo, he certainly fit the criteria, with a reported personal income of $14 million. The combination of signature strength, the quotation, and the pristine photo quality makes this image of the finest examples we have ever seen! Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
