Description

An extremely early Bogie photo inscribed to a “dish” of a startlet

Extremely early vintage glossy 8 x 10 head-and-shoulders Autrey photo of the handsome and young Bogart, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “For Roxanne, that dish, from Humphrey.” In fine condition. Simply matted and framed to an overall size of 10.5 x 12.5.

Roxanne Curtis was an aspiring actress who was discovered and signed to a five-year contract by Fox Studios in 1930. That same year she met Bogie, another up-and-comer recently signed by the studio. Curtis played a flapper divorce in the Will Rogers film, Lightnin’, and perhaps seeing stardom in Bogart’s future, asked him to sign this image, which dates to about 1930-31. Two-and-a-half years later, Curtis left Hollywood, while Bogart was released by Fox around the same time. “That dish” was all but forgotten...her counterpart, however, achieved Hollywood immortality. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
