A royalty agreement for the song “Jesus Is Calling,” wherein Willams and co-writer Charlie Monroe are granted three cents per copy of sheet music sold, 50% of mechanical rights, and 50% of foreign royalties, among other provisions. Both Williams and Monroe, along with the publisher’s representatives, have signed at the conclusion. File holes at top edge, light handling wear, and some very faint foxing lightly touching signatures, otherwise fine condition.
In 1950, Williams began recording music with a religious theme. Worried that disc jockeys would be hesitant to accept these non-traditional Williams songs—ditties that might hurt the marketability of Williams' name—he released some tunes under the pseudonym Luke the Drifter. “Jesus Is Calling” was one such composition, co-written by Williams and the brother of mandolin player Bill Monroe. Charlie Monroe, who signed a solo contract with Decca in 1950, eventually tired of a non-stop touring schedule and retired from music in 1957. An unusual agreement involving Williams’ alter-ego.
