Vintage 8 x 10 head-and-shoulders photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To William Askue, Thos. A. Edison.” Some light edge creasing, light silvering to edges of image, and a couple slight bends and trivial spots, otherwise fine condition. This photograph of Edison was taken by William Scott Shinn, a New York photographer, in 1919. It was used for the design of the 3¢ stamp issued in 1947 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Edison’s birth. Accompanied by three unsigned 8 x 10 informal photos of Edison: two different seated in his laboratory and one outdoors photograph reading his commemorative plaque at Menlo Park. According to William Askue’s son, his father had brought these three photographs for Edison to sign. Edison didn’t like any of them. Instead, he presented the signed photograph to William offered here. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
