George Weiss and Curt Gowdy

George Weiss (1894-1972) served as the New York Yankees’ general manager from 1947 to 1960, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. Curt Gowdy (1919-2006) worked as a Yankees announcer for two years before becoming the “voice” of the Boston Red Sox. Gowdy received the 1984 Ford Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame and is a member of the Boston red Sox Hall of Fame. Partly-printed DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, January 28, 1949. Agreement between the New York Yankees Inc. and Gowdy agreeing to Gowdy to be the “Assistant Announcer on the radio broadcasts of all the baseball games in which the New York Yankees baseball team participates during the 1949 season, and…as Assistant Announcer for the professional football games suring (sic) the 1949 season.” Gowdy will receive $10,000 for the baseball broadcasts, and $2,000 for football. Signed near the bottom by Weiss and by Gowdy. In fine condition, with punch holes at top, light toning to the edges, and pencil notations. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
