Description

Martin Van Buren

LS signed “M. Van Buren,” signed as Secretary of State, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, October 6, 1830. Letter to J. Bingham of Boston, in full: “I have the honor, in reply to the inquiry contained in your letter of the 29th ultimo, to state that nothing has yet been received from our Minister to France, on the subject to which you refer, since the recent occurrences in that country.” Matted and framed with a color portrait and small name plaque, to an overall size of 18 x 15.25. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature. This letter is undoubtedly making reference to that year’s July Revolution, which restored the Bourbon line by settling the crown on “the Citizen King” Louis Philippe. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
