Description

Charles Lindbergh

Original CAM 2 air mail envelope, 6.5 x 3.75, bearing a horseshoe stamped cachet announcing, “Lindbergh Again Flies the Air Mail,” postmarked Feb. 20, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri, and boldly signed in fountain pen by pilot with his rarer and most desirable full signature “Charles A. Lindbergh” vertically along the left edge. Reverse bears two postmarks from Springfield, Illinois, as well. In fine condition, with a bit of creasing. This is a desirable Rudolph Dinnebier cover, one of the most important cachet artist of the time period, and is also addressed to Dinnebier himself. This item marks an additional time Lindbergh came out to personally fly the airmail on this route.

With the cooperation of the Post Office Department, Lindbergh returned to carrying the mail on his old air mail route on CAM 2 for just two days, February 20th and 21st, 1928. The volume of mail for collectors and fans was so great that several planes were necessary to handle the load. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
