Description

A colorful image from a controversial release

Color vintage 9.25 x 7.25 cardstock Walt Disney Productions photo of Brer Bear, Brer Fox, and Brer Rabbit from Song of the South, signed and inscribed in red crayon “To Harold from Walt Disney.” Affixed to a slightly larger sheet, the photo is in very good condition, with several repaired tears to bottom edge, some scattered light soiling (lightly affecting small portion of signature and inscription), and tack hole to each corner.

One of Disney Studios most famous—if controversial—releases, Song of the South features many obviously allegorical tales, each referencing the powerless slaves' struggle to survive his or her powerful masters. Though some have come to call the release racially insensitive and Disney himself a racist, that is far from the truth. Though some of his comments may have been racially insensitive when seen through a “politically correct” point of view, Disney was a product of his era, and never—publicly or privately—made disparaging comments about any race. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
