Ban Johnson

Baseball executive who served as the founder and first president of the American League. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937 as one of its charter members. TLS signed “B. B. Johnson,” one page, 8.5 x 11, American League letterhead, November 6, 1920. Letter to Jacob Ruppert of the New York Yankees. In part: “I am in receipt of a letter…advising that James H., Caton, claimed by the New York American League League [sic], had also been claimed by the Brooklyn and Philadelphia National League Clubs. The player will be awarded to one of the two latter clubs by lot.” Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from James Spence. In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, one through a single letter of signature, pencil notation to top left, and a light shade of toning. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
