American author and philosopher (1803–1882). whose central role in the Transcendentalist movement earned him a place among the most influential figures in 19th-century literature and thought. His two collections of Essays, which encompass such wide-ranging topics as “Love,” “Self-Reliance,” “Experience,” “Nature,” and “Politics,” remain a fixture of the Western canon. Bank check, 7.25 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Emerson, “R. Waldo Emerson,” payable to [blank] for $39.02, June 20, 1872. In fine condition, with circular area of paper loss near top edge and a bit of light soiling. Uncommon in this format! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
