Rare signed book from Buchanan’s personal library: Isthmus of Darien Ship Canal. Later printing. London: Effingham Wilson, 1853. Hardcover, 5.75 x 9, 204 pages. Signed at the top of the title page, “15 December 1853. Received from the author for the President of the United States. J. B.” Book is housed in a custom-made clamshell case. In very good condition, with partial separation along both hinges, New Hampshire Historical Society bookplate affixed to inside front cover, several notations to opening pages, light soiling and some surface loss to top and bottom spine, as well as a library catalog label to lower spine.
