Description

White sends what would be a tragically-ironic letter on the hazards of space

TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, NASA letterhead, stamp-dated August 7, 1964. Incredible and somewhat sadly ironic space-related content, in part: “My full name is Edward Higgins White II (Higgins is a family name) and I was born at 6:00 o’clock on the morning of November 14, 1930. In all technical problems which we astronauts encounter, we seek their solutions by asking the assistance of scientists and engineers. We listen to all the available information, then we accept those conclusions whenever and wherever they are substantiated and we always feel free to draw our own conclusions when they cannot be substantiated. Regarding the probable hazards in space, I think there are many interesting problems of which we are already aware and there are some which we have not as yet uncovered. However, I feel that there are none beyond our capabilities to effectively and successfully combat and control once we have arrived on the surface of the moon.” Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
