Description

Newly-elected Senator Kennedy on “the Eisenhower landslide”

TLS, one page, 6.25 x 9, House of Representatives letterhead, November 25, 1952. Letter of thanks to a campaign supporter. In part: “I am sure you know how much I appreciate all of your efforts during the past months of the campaign. I am certain that we never would have survived the Eisenhower landslide if it had not been for the effectiveness of our organization, an organization, in my opinion, which was the best that the state had ever seen. I fully realize that this victory was won by the people such as yourself who carried out the arduous but necessary tasks which constitute political success, and I want you to know how grateful I am to you for all your assistance.” A light overall shade of toning, and some scattered light wrinkling, otherwise fine condition.

In 1952, JFK defeated incumbent Republican Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. and began his first term in the US Senate. That same year, Dwight Eisenhower was declared his candidacy for president employing the simple but effective slogan “I Like Ike." He and his running mate Richard Nixon defeated Democrats Adlai Stevenson and John Sparkman in a landslide, marking the first Republican return to the White House in twenty years. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
